BC Partners Real Estate Team Joins Proprium in $1 Billion Transfer
BC Partners Real Estate Team Transfers to Proprium
Proprium Capital Partners announced February 3, 2026, that it will bring in the 17-member real estate team from BC Partners Real Estate (BCPRE) as part of a strategic partnership. The transaction adds approximately $1 billion to Proprium's assets under management and expands the firm's European footprint while BC Partners refocuses on its core mid-market private equity and credit strategies.
The BCPRE team, led by partners Stéphane Theuriau, Laurian Douin, and Thibault Lauprêtre, specializes in deal origination and execution. Based in Paris and London, the team is expected to transfer to Proprium within Q1 2026, subject to relevant approvals and implementation measures.
Leadership Structure and Expertise
Under the terms of the agreement, Stéphane Theuriau will become Vice Chairman at Proprium, while Laurian Douin and Thibault Lauprêtre will be made partners. The team brings sector insight and development expertise that complements Proprium's approach of seeking to deliver private equity returns in the real estate industry.
The addition represents what the firms described as an excellent cultural fit, as Stéphane Theuriau and other team members worked closely with Eric Adler and Proprium's Co-Managing Partners during their time at Morgan Stanley. The team will add complementary geographic capabilities and a strong network, particularly across continental Europe and France, while enhancing Proprium's deal origination, execution, and asset management capability.
Strategic Context for Expansion
The move strengthens Proprium's global real estate proposition as the team looks to raise additional capital for new and existing strategies internationally. This development will support Legal & General (L&G) and Proprium's shared growth ambitions in the real estate sector, as well as bolster product innovation and platform investing capabilities.
The transaction follows L&G's investment in Proprium in 2025. L&G has grown its private platform to £71 billion ($95 billion) in assets under management as of Q3 2025 and is on track to reach its growth target of £85 billion ($114 billion) by 2028. The addition of approximately $1 billion from the BCPRE team transfer supports this expansion trajectory.
BC Partners Refocuses on Core Strategies
For BC Partners, the transfer allows the firm to concentrate on its core mid-market strategies of private equity and private credit. BCPRE was established in 2008 and has built a portfolio across European markets.
The team transfer reflects consolidation trends in the real estate industry, where firms are seeking scale advantages and specialized capabilities. The transaction adds distinct sectoral skills to Proprium's platform, with the BCPRE team bringing experience in the real estate sector. This expertise positions the combined entity to pursue opportunities in European real estate markets.
