Canyon Partners Real Estate Hires Chad Goodman to Lead Eastern and Central Region Credit
Canyon Partners Real Estate LLC announced Oct. 5 that Chad Goodman has joined the firm as Head of Eastern & Central Region Credit. Based in New York, Goodman will lead opportunistic real estate credit originations across the Eastern and Central regions of the United States, expanding Canyon Partners' sourcing and lending capabilities in key markets nationwide, the firm said.
Chad Goodman Joins Canyon Partners From Related Fund Management
Goodman brings more than two decades of real estate credit and investing experience. He most recently served as Managing Director at Related Fund Management, where he was responsible for the management and origination of whole loans, B-notes, mezzanine loans and preferred equity for borrowers across the U.S. pursuing opportunistic and transitional business plans.
Before that, Goodman spent nearly 12 years at Westport Capital Partners, where he was responsible for the investment and asset management of real estate investments across asset classes and geographies. Earlier in his career, he held several roles at Bear Stearns focused on mortgage-backed securities and structured products.
Canyon Partners Real Estate Expands Credit Origination Platform
"Chad brings extensive experience sourcing and structuring complex real estate investments across market cycles, making him a strong addition to our growing credit platform," said Jacob Feingold, Partner and Head of Originations for Canyon Partners Real Estate. "Expanding our origination capabilities in the Central and Eastern U.S. will allow us to deepen our relationships with borrowers and sponsors and identify compelling opportunities across a broad range of markets, structures and property types."
Goodman's appointment follows other recent senior hires at Canyon Partners Real Estate. Scott Swisher joined in June as Managing Director, Head of Western Region Credit Originations, coming from ACORE Capital. The firm also appointed Adam Ostrowsky as Managing Director, Capital Markets; Scott San Filippo as Senior Director, Bridge Debt; and Spencer Schlee as Managing Director and Head of Opportunistic Equity. Together, the appointments have expanded Canyon Partners' senior investment team and its capabilities across credit and equity strategies nationwide, the firm said.
The hires organize credit origination by region and product: Goodman covers the East and Central regions, Swisher covers the West, and San Filippo focuses on bridge debt. Goodman's background spans multiple layers of the capital stack, from whole loans to preferred equity.
Market Context: Demand for Transitional and Structured Capital
The appointment expands Canyon Partners' ability to originate the types of financing that have become more important as conventional lenders remain selective, including transitional loans, bridge debt, subordinate debt, preferred equity and other structured capital. Borrowers facing maturing loans, higher refinancing costs, construction delays or unresolved valuation gaps increasingly require customized capital rather than straightforward permanent financing. Private lenders and alternative investment managers compete for these opportunities, particularly with sponsors seeking speed, higher leverage, rescue capital or flexible structures for assets with credible business plans.
Locating Goodman in New York places the Eastern and Central credit lead near one of the country's largest concentrations of institutional owners, lenders, developers and financial intermediaries.
