Lument Acquires $400M Life Company Servicing Portfolio in Multifamily, Office, Industrial and Retail Expansion
Lument has acquired a $400 million life company servicing portfolio from V.P. Clarence Company, a privately held commercial mortgage banking firm based in El Paso, Texas, the company announced April 13, 2026. The transaction pushes Lument's total loan servicing and asset management portfolio past $56 billion, encompassing approximately 6,500 loans serviced on behalf of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD/FHA, CMBS lenders, life companies, and its own balance sheet.
The acquired portfolio includes approximately 100 properties located across the United States, spanning multifamily, retail, industrial, and office asset classes. The properties were financed by eight national life company lenders, according to the firm's announcement.
Strengthening a National Commercial Real Estate Servicing Platform
Lument, a subsidiary of Orix Capital Corporation, said the acquisition advances its strategy of expanding third-party life company servicing and deepening relationships with institutional capital providers. The deal adds scale to a platform that already ranks among the largest commercial real estate servicing operations in the country.
"This acquisition reinforces Lument's position as both an originator and servicer of loans placed with participating life companies," said Jim Flynn, Lument's CEO. "For life company borrowers, this means a seamless experience from quote to loan servicing, while life companies themselves benefit from Lument's national client base and cutting-edge servicing infrastructure."
The transaction also builds on Lument's debt capital markets platform, which has closed loans totaling $1.6 billion since its launch in 2024. Rick Warren, senior managing director and head of capital markets at Lument, said the deal deepens the firm's access to alternative capital solutions.
"This transaction further expands our life company relationships, deepening the alternative capital solutions we can offer our clients," Warren said. "We will continue to build relationships with select capital sources including life companies, banks, debt funds and conduits that add to our lending platform."
Ken Clarence Joins Lument as Managing Director
As part of the transaction, Ken Clarence, president of V.P. Clarence Company, will join Lument as a managing director. Clarence will focus on originations and the transition of borrower relationships from the acquired portfolio.
"I'm excited to help expand Lument's growing debt capital markets business," Clarence said. "Life companies are an important source of capital for high-quality, well-located assets requiring long-term debt with flexible structures and competitive pricing."
