AMSTERDAM — November 12, 2025: Abn Amro Bank N.V. announced an agreement to acquire Nbt Bank from Blackstone for approximately EUR 960 million, a move the bank said will reinforce its strong position in the Dutch retail and mortgage markets.

ABN AMRO Expands Through Mortgage and Savings Growth

The transaction, valued at 0.85 times NIBC’s book value, will add scale to ABN AMRO’s retail banking operations and expand its exposure to mortgage lending and savings products. The acquisition aligns with ABN AMRO’s strategy to focus on profitable growth, right-size its cost base, and optimize capital allocation, according to the company’s announcement.

NIBC’s Banking Portfolio

Founded in 1945, NIBC Bank is a Netherlands-based institution with a focus on mortgage lending, saving products, commercial real estate, and digital infrastructure lending. The bank serves about 325,000 savings clients, 200,000 mortgage clients, and 175 corporate clients within ABN AMRO’s Northwest European footprint.

Leadership Comments on the Transaction

Marguerite Bérard, Chief Executive Officer of ABN AMRO, said the acquisition represents “a unique opportunity to further strengthen our position in the Dutch retail market and contributes to profitable growth.” She added that the deal fits the bank’s acquisition criteria and supports its upcoming strategic plan.

Annerie Vreugdenhil, Chief Commercial Officer of Personal & Business Banking at ABN AMRO, said NIBC is “a natural match” that will enhance ABN AMRO’s mortgage and savings businesses. NIBC CEO Nick Jue described the acquisition as “an exciting milestone” in the bank’s history, citing the alignment of strategies and opportunities for clients and employees. Qasim Abbas, Head of Tactical Opportunities International at Blackstone, said the firm was proud to have supported NIBC’s growth and resilience.
