ITOCHU Acquires 19.5% Minority Stake in Multifamily Developer Wood Partners

ATLANTA — December 1, 2025: Wood Partners, one of the largest developers of multifamily real estate in the United States, announced that a subsidiary of ITOCHU Corporation has acquired a 19.5% minority interest in the company. The transaction establishes a new partnership between the Atlanta-based developer and the Tokyo-headquartered conglomerate.

Wood Partners Retains Majority Ownership

According to the announcement, Wood Partners’ management team will continue to hold a majority ownership stake, while Fayez Sarofim & Co. will retain a significant minority interest. The firm stated that its management, strategy, and operations will remain unchanged following the investment. Terms of the transaction were undisclosed.

Wood Partners’ Development Portfolio

Wood Partners has been involved in the acquisition and development of more than 115,000 multifamily homes nationwide, representing a combined capitalization of $24 billion. The firm currently owns more than 80 properties totaling approximately 25,000 homes and operates from 17 offices across major U.S. markets. The company ranks as the third-largest multifamily developer in the United States, according to the National Multifamily Housing Council’s 2025 rankings.
