Mesirow Appoints Two Managing Directors, Opens Tokyo Office to Serve Japanese Institutional Investors
Mesirow, an independent, employee-owned financial services firm, announced April 9, 2026, the opening of its Tokyo office and the appointments of Manabu Ogi and Katsuya Fukushima as Managing Directors to lead the firm's Japan operations. The move reflects Mesirow's ongoing strategic plan to deepen its global relationships and better support institutional investors across alternative asset classes.
New Tokyo Office Targets Japan's Institutional Investment Market
The Tokyo office marks Mesirow's latest step in expanding its Asia-Pacific footprint. In their new roles, Ogi and Fukushima will lead the firm's efforts to serve Japanese institutional investors and consultants across Mesirow's suite of Private Capital and Currency Solutions, which includes private equity, alternative credit, institutional real estate direct, and currency strategies.
"Japan represents one of the world's most sophisticated institutional investment markets, and establishing a local presence is a meaningful milestone for our global platform," said David Schrock, Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Mesirow Capital Formation and Currency Solutions. "Mr. Ogi and Mr. Fukushima are highly respected leaders with deep relationships and a shared commitment to client service. Their experience and integrity will enable us to build long-term partnerships in Japan and deliver the differentiated alternative investment capabilities that Mesirow is known for."
Manabu Ogi Named Head of Japan, Capital Formation and Currency Solutions
Ogi has been appointed Managing Director and Head of Japan, Capital Formation and Currency Solutions. He brings more than two decades of leadership experience in alternative investments, a background that spans several prominent Japanese financial institutions.
Prior to joining Mesirow, Ogi served as an advisor at Daiwa JPI Alternative Investments. Before that, he held senior roles at Mitsui & Co. Alternative Investments, including Board Member and Chief Product Officer, where he oversaw investment management, product management, sales, and marketing. Earlier in his career, he led client service and marketing at Man Group's FRM division in Tokyo. Ogi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Kwansei Gakuin University.
Katsuya Fukushima Appointed Head of Sales, Japan
Fukushima joins Mesirow as Managing Director and Head of Sales, Japan, following a career in institutional sales and marketing within Japan's alternative investment sector. Most recently, he served as Executive Director at Mitsui & Co. Alternative Investments, where he headed the firm's Sales and Marketing Department.
Fukushima previously held senior roles at Man Group Japan, UBS — in both capital introduction roles in New York and Tokyo — and Merrill Lynch Japan. He began his career as a proprietary equity trader at Daiwa Securities. Fukushima holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Structural Mechanics from Chiba University.
Strategies Offered to Japanese Investors
The Tokyo office expansion positions Mesirow to deliver its suite of alternative investment strategies to Japanese capital allocators. The firm's Capital Formation and Currency Solutions team provides access to strategies spanning private equity, alternative credit, institutional real estate direct, and currency.
Mesirow's Private Capital and Currency businesses reported $224.9 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2025, according to the firm.
Strategic Expansion Reflects Broader Global Push
The addition of the Tokyo office and the two senior appointments reflects what Mesirow describes as its ongoing strategic plan to deepen its global relationships and better support institutional investors. The firm characterized the move as an acceleration of its long-term commitment to delivering alternative investment capabilities to clients across the Asia-Pacific region.
