Mesirow Capital Markets has arranged a $40 million private placement for Denver Summit FC, the National Women's Soccer League's 16th franchise, to fund construction of a new practice facility in Denver — marking one of the first bond financings completed by a women's professional sports team, the firm announced March 23, 2026.

The financing was structured by Mesirow's CTL and Structured Debt Products and Sale Leaseback Capital divisions. MetLife Investment Management partnered to support the novel financing structure, which was purchased by institutional investors and backed by naming rights payments from healthcare system CommonSpirit Health, whose name will be displayed on the facility.

A Milestone in Financing for Women's Sports

Private placements have long been a tool used by prominent men's professional sports franchises globally to access efficient, highly executable capital outside of public markets. This transaction represents a significant step forward for women's professional sports organizations seeking similar access to institutional capital.

"This is a breakthrough for women's sports," said Nathaniel Sager, President of Capital Markets at Mesirow. "The fact that this transaction was purchased by institutional investors represents a new frontier in what women's sports organizations can achieve in the private placement market."

The bond's credit structure is designed to provide institutional investors with enhanced support, drawing on the stability of naming rights payments from CommonSpirit Health as the primary collateral mechanism.

Facility Development

The proceeds from the $40 million private placement will support construction of a dedicated practice facility for Denver Summit FC in the Denver metropolitan area. Specific square footage, address, and construction timeline details were not disclosed in the announcement.

CommonSpirit Health, the healthcare system providing naming rights payments that back the bond, will have its name displayed on the completed facility. The naming rights agreement serves as the primary credit support mechanism for the financing structure.
