Newmark has been selected as the exclusive listing agent to market 736 Mission Street, the home of The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM), a 63,000-square-foot architectural landmark in downtown San Francisco's Yerba Buena cultural district, the firm announced March 25, 2026.

Newmark Executive Managing Director Mark Geisreiter, Senior Managing Director Seth McKinnon, and Director Josh Peterson are leading the assignment as listing agents. The CJM has indicated it plans to exit the building at closing, with the sale intended to support the museum's transition to a more sustainable and impactful operating model.

The listing agents are positioning the property as an opportunity for an aligned organization to acquire a purpose-built, museum-quality asset in a prime urban location.

"We are honored to support The CJM as it takes this thoughtful next step toward achieving a sustainable operating model," Geisreiter said. "Mindful of the building's legacy, our focus is to identify the right steward whose program complements the Yerba Buena neighborhood cultural district and will serve San Francisco for decades to come."

Geisreiter added: "This is a generational opportunity for the right organization to acquire a world-class, museum quality building in one of San Francisco's most important locations, and we expect strong demand from a variety of potential buyers."

No asking price has been disclosed. The listing was newly announced, and no sale price, cap rate, price per square foot, or financing details have been made public.

Property Details: A Landmark Adaptive Reuse in Yerba Buena

736 Mission Street carries San Francisco City Landmark designation No. 87. In 2008, world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind led an adaptive reuse project that integrated the historic structure with contemporary design elements, creating a purpose-built museum environment.

The 63,000-square-foot building features soaring ceilings and a diverse mix of interior programming, including galleries and event spaces, a large auditorium, classrooms, meeting rooms, administrative offices, retail space, and a café.

The property sits in the Yerba Buena neighborhood, flanked by the Four Seasons Hotel and the Four Seasons Residence Tower, directly across from Yerba Buena Gardens and the Moscone Center. The location offers proximity to Market Street, public transportation, hotels, dining, shopping, and parking.

Prospective buyers are expected to include organizations whose intended use complements the Yerba Buena neighborhood's cultural identity — a criterion the listing team has emphasized as central to the selection process. The sale process is ongoing, and no timeline for closing has been disclosed.
