Castlelake, L.P., a global alternative investment firm specializing in asset-based private credit, announced Oct. 13 the appointments of Betsy Sylvester and Luke Jackson to Partner. Sylvester becomes Partner, Capital Formation, and Jackson becomes Partner, Residential Mortgage Finance.

The firm said the appointments underscore its focus on long-term stability and disciplined growth, and its commitment to deepening client partnerships and expanding its asset-based investment capabilities.

Betsy Sylvester Named Partner, Capital Formation

Sylvester joined Castlelake in 2019 and leads Client Management. In that role, she directs the firm's global client management strategy and activities, including fund and strategic partnership formation and investor relations.

Before joining Castlelake, Sylvester held client advisory and private wealth roles in the investment management and investment banking industries. She began her career in the nonprofit sector.

As Partner, Capital Formation, Sylvester will continue to focus on ensuring the delivery of Castlelake's high-quality client experience and supporting strategic relationships defined by creative, tailored solutions. Her promotion elevates the executive responsible for institutional capital formation, a function that has grown in importance as private-credit managers compete for institutional allocations.

Luke Jackson Leads Residential Mortgage Finance

Jackson joined Castlelake in 2019 and leads the firm's Residential Mortgage Finance investment activities. He guides the investment team and originates and executes the firm's residential mortgage finance strategy globally. The strategy covers residential transitional loans, non-qualified mortgages, prime jumbo loans, mortgage servicing rights and small-balance multifamily loans.

Jackson previously served on Castlelake's Specialty Finance team, where he originated new investment opportunities and helped establish and expand the firm's residential mortgage finance team and strategy. As Partner, Residential Mortgage Finance, he will continue to lead the development and expansion of that strategy.

Castlelake Executives on the Appointments

"Luke and Betsy have each made meaningful contributions to Castlelake's growth and evolution, bringing deep expertise, strong judgment and a collaborative approach to their respective areas of leadership," said Yen-Wah Lam, President and Chief People Officer of Castlelake. "Luke has played a key role in building and scaling our residential mortgage finance strategy, while Betsy's leadership has been instrumental in strengthening our global client management capabilities and deepening relationships with investors."

Evan Carruthers, Managing Partner, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Castlelake, said the appointments reflect the firm's commitment to cultivating long-term leadership. "The path to partnership at Castlelake represents a robust and rewarding way to ensure our firm's future and its ability to provide differentiated value to our stakeholders," Carruthers said.

The firm's partnership group includes established leaders across investment, client management and enterprise functions.

Context: Castlelake's Expanding Residential Platform

The promotions follow a period of expansion in Castlelake's residential mortgage finance business. In April 2026, Castlelake acquired a majority stake in Resfin Partners, the owner of mortgage correspondent business Eastview and residential-investment lender Lendmarq. Castlelake said the platforms had originated more than 4,000 senior structured loans representing over $2 billion of funded volume in their relationship with the firm.

Castlelake also completed its first residential transition-loan securitization, issuing $261.3 million of asset-backed debt through Castlelake Residential Mortgage Trust 2026-RTL1. The initial collateral consisted of 327 loans with an aggregate unpaid principal balance of approximately $223.0 million, diversified across 23 states. The loans generally finance residential properties that investors intend to acquire, renovate and sell or retain.

The transaction included a 24-month revolving period, allowing repaid loans to be replaced with additional eligible loans, subject to concentration and credit requirements. The largest tranche was $213.4 million of Class A1 notes with a 5.682% fixed coupon and 22.4% initial credit enhancement. A BB-rated class carried a 7.157% coupon. Castlelake retained $13.75 million of unrated residual securities, representing a 5% horizontal interest in the aggregate fair value of the securities.

Castlelake has described demand for private lending solutions as strong as investors seek capital to bring housing inventory back to market.

Commercial Real Estate Relevance

The announcement centers on residential mortgage finance rather than conventional office, retail or industrial property. Its most direct commercial real estate connection is Castlelake's small-balance multifamily lending, part of the broader strategy Jackson leads. A lender active in both residential transitional loans and small-balance multifamily can potentially serve borrowers whose needs fall between traditional bank financing and large institutional commercial mortgage platforms.
