Crescent Capital Closes $10.8 Billion CDL Fund IV, Largest in Firm's History
LOS ANGELES — Crescent Capital has closed its fourth U.S. direct lending fund, Crescent Direct Lending Fund IV, raising $10.8 billion in investable capital — the largest fund in the firm's history and one of the largest lower middle market direct lending vehicles raised to date, the firm announced June 3, 2026.
The close brings Crescent Capital's total assets under management to more than $50 billion globally.
Fund Size and Structure
CDL Fund IV was significantly oversubscribed, exceeding its initial fundraising target by more than $2.5 billion. Total equity commitments surpassed $5.5 billion, translating to approximately $7.9 billion of investable capital at the fund level including targeted leverage, and $10.8 billion inclusive of separately managed accounts investing alongside the fund.
The vehicle represents a substantial step up from its predecessor. CDL Fund III closed in February 2022 with $4.2 billion in investable capital, making CDL Fund IV more than 2.5 times larger in investable capital terms.
The fund attracted more than 100 global institutions across 18 countries, including insurance companies, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, financial institutions, foundations, and endowments.
Deployment and Strategy
CDL Fund IV is actively investing. As of the announcement, the fund had issued approximately $2.7 billion in senior loan commitments across more than 60 portfolio companies, with roughly 40% of fund-level capital already deployed — ahead of schedule, according to the firm.
The fund targets sponsor-backed U.S. companies with $5 million to $50 million in EBITDA, placing it in the lower middle market segment of private credit. Crescent Direct Lending provides senior secured financing to support leveraged buyouts, acquisition financing, refinancings, and recapitalizations.
"We continue to see attractive opportunities to provide senior debt capital to high-quality sponsor-backed U.S. companies, especially in the lower middle market," said John Bowman and Scott Carpenter of Crescent Direct Lending. "We are grateful for the strong support from both existing and new investors and remain focused on executing our time-tested, disciplined underwriting approach and maintaining the consistency that has defined our strategy over time. We remain firmly committed to the lower middle market, where we believe our experience, relationships, and disciplined approach continue to differentiate our platform."
Bowman and Carpenter added that the expanded capital base enhances the firm's ability to support growing companies and their sponsor partners with flexible, scalable financing solutions, "while continuing to provide reliable execution and speed of close that borrowers and sponsors value in today's market environment."
Investor Demand
"The successful fundraise for CDL Fund IV reflects the depth of our longstanding investor relationships and the broad global demand for differentiated private credit strategies," said Jonathan Harari, Global Head of Crescent's Investor Solutions Group. "We appreciate the trust our investors have placed in Crescent."
