NEW YORKKKR has launched Helix Digital Infrastructure, a new company backed by more than $10 billion in long-duration committed capital, designed to finance and deliver the data centers, power generation and connectivity infrastructure required to meet accelerating demand for artificial intelligence. The Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and Vistra join KKR as founding investors in the platform, the firm announced June 10.

A Single Coordination Point for Hyperscalers

KKR framed the launch as a direct response to what it described as a key bottleneck in the AI buildout: the scale and complexity of financing and coordinating data centers, power procurement, grid interconnection and connectivity across multiple counterparties. The firm said AI is driving what it characterized as the largest infrastructure buildout in modern history, requiring trillions of dollars in investment over the coming decade.

Helix is designed to serve as a single strategic partner to hyperscalers, offering integrated development capabilities across hyperscale data center development and operations, baseload and flexible power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fiber and connectivity infrastructure. The model is intended to provide more integrated and repeatable infrastructure solutions that reduce the complexity hyperscalers face in building at unprecedented scale.

"Large users of digital infrastructure have an urgent need to reduce complexity and unlock new capacity. Helix combines significant long-term capital with the capabilities and expertise to deliver holistic AI infrastructure solutions with speed and scale," said Adam Selipsky, Co-Founder and CEO of Helix Digital Infrastructure. "Helix is further strengthened by strategic partnerships with NVIDIA and Vistra across technology and power, which we believe will enable the company to deliver the infrastructure that will underpin hyperscalers' AI strategies for years to come."

Selipsky, the former CEO of Amazon Web Services, leads the new company. Waldemar Szlezak, KKR's Global Head of Digital Infrastructure, will serve as Helix's Chief Investment Officer.

NVIDIA and Vistra as Strategic Partners

NVIDIA's role in the Helix structure goes beyond that of a financial investor. The chipmaker will serve as a cornerstone strategic partner, supporting the deployment of NVIDIA DSX AI factory-aligned infrastructure with a focus on maximizing tokens per watt, achieving lowest total cost of ownership and accelerating time to first token.

"Useful AI has arrived, and demand for AI factories is extraordinary," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "AI is driving the largest infrastructure buildout in modern history. With the NVIDIA DSX platform and the Helix strategic partnership, we are bringing together a proven AI factory blueprint, world-class infrastructure expertise from KKR, and long-term capital to help AI cloud providers build the next generation of intelligence infrastructure."

Vistra, an integrated power generation and electricity company with operations across 18 states and Washington, D.C., will serve as Helix's preferred power provider. Vistra said it has already executed more than 5,000 megawatts of power purchase agreements with hyperscalers and will supply near-term power from its existing generation fleet while also contributing new capacity through its development pipeline.

"Power generation and grid interconnections are critical gating factors for AI infrastructure deployments," said Jim Burke, president and CEO of Vistra. "Helix brings together data center development, infrastructure and power capabilities under a single umbrella, providing a one-stop shop for large load customers."

Capital Structure and KKR's Infrastructure Platform

The Helix strategy launches with more than $10 billion in total long-duration capital commitments. KKR's anchor investment is funded through its corporate balance sheet and other managed vehicles. Following the closing of founding commitments, Helix is open to additional eligible institutional investors.

The Kuwait Investment Authority, described as the world's oldest sovereign wealth fund, established in 1953, is among the founding investors. Sheikh Saoud Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah, Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority, said the platform "reflects a differentiated model that combines proven leadership, integrated capabilities and long-term capital required to deliver the next generation of critical digital infrastructure at scale."

Helix is supported by KKR's broader infrastructure platform, which the firm said manages more than $100 billion in infrastructure assets under management, including more than $70 billion invested across digital and power assets.

"Like a DNA helix, Helix Digital Infrastructure is built on a double strand of complementary strengths — KKR's institutional capital and infrastructure expertise intertwined with Helix's hyperscaler leadership and execution engine," said Joe Bae and Scott Nuttall, Co-Chief Executive Officers of KKR. "Together, with our strategic partners, we are positioned to meet the financial and operational demands of the AI era."
