LONG BEACH, Calif. — Linc Housing has broken ground on Thrive, a 73-unit affordable multifamily real estate development in Long Beach, California. The construction start was celebrated May 28, with first move-ins anticipated in late 2027.

Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson, Long Beach City Councilmember Kristina Duggan, other city officials, and development partners joined Linc President and COO Suny Lay Chang for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Project Details and Unit Mix

When complete, the Thrive community will offer 73 apartment homes, comprising 21 three-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units, 36 one-bedroom units, and one on-site manager's unit. The development is designed to serve a mixed population of families and individuals, with 25% of the homes designated for residents with disabilities.

The project draws design inspiration from local midcentury regionalism and will be built as a 100% electric community with no reliance on gas infrastructure. Resident-focused amenities will include on-site vehicle and bicycle parking, resident services space, a community room, a large courtyard with BBQs and play equipment, a dog run, and two outdoor decks.

Transit-Oriented Location and Community Context

"The new Thrive community creates more affordable homes near schools, parks, the library, and transit; helping reduce costs for working families while improving access to everyday resources and opportunity, ensuring the impact on families reflects the very name of the development," Mayor Richardson said in a statement. "By placing the community along a major transit corridor, we're creating a more connected, sustainable, and inclusive Long Beach where families of all income levels can continue to live and prosper."

Linc Housing's Broader Supportive Housing Work

Thrive is one of several communities in Linc Housing's portfolio. The organization also operates supportive housing communities including HiFi Collective, Springhaven Apartments in Willowbrook, Atlas in South Los Angeles, Willow Way in El Monte, and Mosaic Gardens at Taylor Terrace in Sacramento, among others. Across these properties, Linc deploys on-site case managers, resident services coordinators, and programming such as financial literacy workshops to support residents.

Linc Housing did not disclose a street address, total development cost, or financing sources in connection with the announcement. Construction is underway, with the community expected to welcome residents in late 2027.
