DICK'S Sporting Goods will bring its first House of Sport store concept to California with a 158,000-square-foot location at The Valley shopping center in San Diego's Mission Valley, developer and owner Lowe announced May 8, 2026.

The store will mark the retailer's California debut for the House of Sport format, which differs from standard DICK'S locations by offering an expanded product assortment alongside in-store athletic experiences.

Experiential Retail Format at The Valley

The House of Sport concept is designed to give athletes the opportunity to try products while measuring and tracking their performance. The Mission Valley location will include a climbing wall, multiple golf bays equipped with TrackMan simulators, an outdoor track and field, and a multi-sport cage that can be used for baseball, softball, lacrosse, and soccer.

The shopping center is located at 5600-5955 Mission Center Road and is owned and operated by Lowe.

The Valley Property

The Valley was originally built in 1970. No additional details regarding the property's redevelopment history or prior branding were disclosed in the announcement.

DICK'S House of Sport Expansion

The House of Sport format has been piloted in other markets, and the San Diego location represents the concept's entry into California. The format is positioned as a differentiated retail experience compared to the retailer's standard store footprint, with the in-store amenities intended to drive customer engagement beyond traditional merchandise browsing.

The lease was announced by Lowe, which serves as the landlord for The Valley. No financial terms of the lease were disclosed.
