NorthMarq has hired a Houston-based retail investment sales team consisting of Matt Berry, Robbie Kilcrease, and Drew Reinking, the firm announced Aug. 31, 2026. The three, who previously served as senior vice presidents in CBRE's Texas Retail Investment Sales group, join NorthMarq as managing directors and members of the firm's National Shopping Center Group, expanding its retail investment sales capabilities across Texas and nationally.

A Combined $9 Billion in Retail Transactions

Collectively, Berry, Kilcrease, and Reinking have completed more than 1,300 retail transactions totaling over $9 billion in volume throughout their careers. The team has been ranked No. 1 for three consecutive years in total transactions and sales volume for retail assets under $30 million — a segment that drives significant shopping center liquidity among private capital and 1031 exchange buyers.

Matt Berry has been involved in more than 500 retail investment sales transactions totaling more than $4 billion in volume. He specializes in retail investment sales and capital markets solutions for institutional and private capital clients across Texas, advising on the acquisition, disposition, and financing of retail investment properties. Berry was ranked among the Houston Business Journal's Top 5 Heavy Hitters in 2025 and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University. Prior to CBRE, he spent more than five years at HFF, now part of JLL.

Robbie Kilcrease has participated in more than 500 retail transactions totaling more than $3 billion in sales volume, focusing on the acquisition and disposition of institutional and entrepreneurial-owned retail assets across Texas, including single-tenant and multi-tenant properties. He ranked No. 6 on the Houston Business Journal's 2025 list of top Houston retail brokers, with more than $130 million in sales volume that year. Kilcrease is a graduate of Texas Tech University and began his commercial real estate career as an analyst at HFF before joining CBRE. He previously spent four years as a professional baseball player in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Drew Reinking has been involved in more than 300 retail transactions totaling more than $2 billion in sales volume, with a focus on the acquisition and disposition of multi-tenant retail properties throughout Texas. Before entering commercial real estate, Reinking was a partner at a boutique wealth management firm advising clients on tax and estate planning strategies. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Edward's University and played collegiate basketball at both the University of North Texas and St. Edward's University.

Among the team's past transactions at CBRE are the sale of Bay Pointe Shopping Center, a 98,522-square-foot multi-tenant shopping center in southeast Houston, where Berry, Kilcrease, and Reinking represented the seller in a transaction to Partners Capital. The team also represented Cannon/Unimat Commercial in the sale of Deerbrook Plaza Shopping Center in Humble, Texas, illustrating their specialization in multi-tenant suburban retail formats.

Strengthening NorthMarq's National Shopping Center Group

The National Shopping Center Group is positioned as an integrated capital markets platform for shopping center owners and investors, offering debt, equity, investment sales, loan servicing, and analytics under one advisory structure. NorthMarq reported 218% year-over-year growth in shopping center investment sales in 2025 and closed $1.45 billion in NSCG transactions from 2022 through 2025, including recapitalizations and institutional-quality shopping centers nationwide.

Firm-wide, NorthMarq manages a loan servicing portfolio of more than $80 billion and has completed $91.3 billion in transactions over the past four years across its more than 50 offices.

"Matt, Robbie and Drew have built one of the most respected retail investment sales teams in Texas," said Jeff Cox, executive managing director of Commercial Investment Sales at NorthMarq. "Their addition significantly strengthens our national retail investment sales platform and expands our ability to serve clients across Texas and key retail markets nationwide. Just as importantly, their collaborative approach and client-first mindset align closely with the culture that differentiates NorthMarq."

"This is an exciting new chapter for our team," said Berry. "We've spent years building our business around relationships, collaboration and delivering results for our clients. NorthMarq's entrepreneurial culture, collaborative approach and national retail platform create a tremendous opportunity for our team and our clients. We're excited to contribute to the firm's continued growth while expanding the resources, relationships and reach available to investors across Texas and beyond."

Houston Retail Market Context

The hire comes as Houston's retail market maintains stable occupancy fundamentals. Retail vacancy in Houston stood at 5.6% at the end of the first quarter of 2026, down 10 basis points quarter-over-quarter, with the construction pipeline reaching 4.2 million square feet — up 26.6% quarter-over-quarter — reflecting continued developer confidence in the market. The combination of low vacancy and an active transaction environment has sustained demand for experienced retail investment sales advisors capable of navigating pricing and capital markets conditions.

Berry ranked No. 5 on the Houston Business Journal's 2025 list of top Houston retail brokers, with more than $130 million in individual sales volume that year, while Kilcrease ranked No. 6 on the same list.
