PAM Health Plans 42-Bed Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital in West Columbia, South Carolina
PAM Health, a post-acute healthcare services provider based in Enola, Pennsylvania, has announced plans to develop a 42-bed physical medicine and rehabilitation hospital in West Columbia, South Carolina, the company said June 12. The facility, to be named PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Columbia, is expected to open in late 2027 and will represent the organization's second hospital in the state.
Project Details and Services
The planned inpatient rehabilitation facility will deliver comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy. According to PAM Health, the hospital will serve patients recovering from a range of complex conditions, including traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, stroke and other neurological disorders, cardiac conditions, amputations, severe illnesses, and orthopedic or post-surgical needs.
The facility will also offer outpatient therapy services for patients who have been discharged, extending what PAM Health describes as a continuum of care. In addition, the company said the West Columbia hospital will provide workers' compensation rehabilitation programs, which PAM Health operates as a specialty line aimed at helping injured employees return to work.
PAM Health has not yet disclosed a street address, total square footage, or ownership and financing structure for the project.
South Carolina Expansion Strategy
The West Columbia project is PAM Health's second announced hospital in South Carolina. The company's first in-state facility, PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Aiken, is scheduled to begin admitting patients in mid-November 2026.
"As we continue to expand our footprint in South Carolina, this new hospital reflects our steadfast commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services," said Anthony Misitano, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of PAM Health. "With the US Census Bureau recently naming South Carolina the fastest growing state, we are proud to extend our impact in the community by providing best-in-class rehabilitative care to patients throughout the developing Columbia region."
The U.S. Census Bureau has identified South Carolina as the fastest-growing state in the country, a demographic trend that PAM Health cited as a factor in its expansion decision.
Economic Impact
PAM Health projects the West Columbia facility will create approximately 200 jobs, covering clinical, administrative, and support staff positions.
PAM Health's National Footprint
PAM Health operates more than 100 facilities across 23 states, including long-term acute care hospitals, medical rehabilitation hospitals, behavioral health hospitals, wound care clinics, and outpatient physical therapy locations.
The company's dual-facility approach in South Carolina — Aiken scheduled to open in mid-November 2026 and West Columbia targeted for late 2027 — positions it to serve multiple markets in the state.
Outlook
PAM Health has not disclosed a general contractor, architect, or development partner for the West Columbia project. Key details that remain undisclosed include the facility's street address, total building square footage, real estate ownership structure, and the status of any required regulatory approvals. The company said it expects the hospital to open in late 2027.
