MILWAUKEE — Hammes announced Oct. 7 that Patrick Hammes has been named Chief Executive Officer, a step the firm described as part of its long-term leadership succession planning. Jon Hammes, who has served as Chairman and CEO, will continue as Chairman of Hammes.

The firm said the change is a planned transition designed to ensure long-term continuity, stability and growth. As CEO, Patrick Hammes will continue to provide strategic and operational oversight of the firm's suite of services spanning real estate consulting, development, investment and management, all with a focus on healthcare.

Patrick Hammes Assumes CEO Role

Patrick Hammes becomes CEO of the overall Hammes platform. He remains a managing principal and investment committee member of Hammes Partners, the firm's institutional investment platform, alongside Jon Hammes.

Jon Hammes remains Chairman, preserving founder involvement while separating board-level stewardship from day-to-day executive leadership. Jon Hammes founded the firm 35 years ago.

"Formalizing Patrick's role as CEO underscores the confidence we have in his leadership and his strategic acumen," Jon Hammes said. "This transition is a natural evolution that supports our growth, upholds our fiduciary commitment to investors, and maintains continuity for our clients, tenants and partners."

Patrick Hammes said the transition reflects the strength of the platform his father established. "While my title has evolved, our strategy remains the same, leveraging our fully integrated capabilities to deliver long-term value for our healthcare clients and institutional partners," he said. "With strong leadership teams in place across each of our businesses, we are well-positioned to build on our momentum and remain focused on what we do best."

Hammes Affiliates Keep Existing Leadership

The leadership structure of the firm's affiliated businesses — Hammes Healthcare, Hammes Realty Services and Hammes Partners — remains unchanged. The firm said this ensures seamless service for clients, investors, tenants and partners.

The unchanged leadership of the affiliates suggests the company is seeking to preserve execution rather than restructure its divisions.

Patrick Hammes' Background

Patrick Hammes joined the company in 2012 to support the preparation and launch of Hammes Partners. Before joining Hammes, he was a member of the Business Services and Healthcare Investment Banking Group at Robert W. Baird & Co. Before Baird, he was an attorney at a large law firm in Dallas, Texas, and previously worked in the General Counsel's office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC.

His investment banking work included mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt offerings, valuation opinions and private placements, experience relevant to capital formation, acquisitions and institutional investor relations in a capital-intensive sector.

Healthcare Real Estate Context

Hammes combines consulting, development, investment and property management rather than operating as a standalone brokerage or development company. The firm says it was ranked the No. 1 developer in Modern Healthcare's 2026 Construction & Design Survey, and its project portfolio includes major hospital and ambulatory-care assignments. It also recently highlighted the final move phase of Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center's new bed tower.

Healthcare real estate is increasingly driven by outpatient and ambulatory-care demand, hospital-campus modernization and health-system efforts to make capital spending more efficient. Rising construction and labor costs increase the need for disciplined project planning and capital allocation, while higher financing costs and uncertain property valuations make investment underwriting, asset management and operating expertise more important than during the low-rate period. Hammes identifies medical office buildings, ambulatory surgery centers and other healthcare facilities as investment targets for Hammes Partners.

Outlook

The appointment formalizes a succession process that had developed through Patrick Hammes' involvement in launching and managing Hammes Partners. With Jon Hammes retaining the chairmanship and the affiliated businesses' leadership unchanged, the firm said its strategy remains the same under its new CEO.
