Summit Hotel Properties CFO William Conkling to Depart June 15 as Real Estate Investment Trust Launches Executive Search
Summit Hotel Properties, Inc. (NYSE: INN) announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer William "Trey" Conkling will depart the company effective June 15, 2026, for personal reasons, triggering a leadership transition at the publicly traded lodging real estate investment trust.
The Austin, Texas-based company's portfolio consisted of 94 assets — 52 of which are wholly owned — totaling 14,226 guestrooms across 24 states as of June 12, 2026. Summit Hotel Properties focuses on premium-branded lodging properties in the Upscale segment of the lodging industry.
Leadership Transition Details
To support an orderly transition, Conkling will remain available to the company in an advisory capacity through September 30, 2026. In the interim, President and Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Stanner will assume the role of principal financial officer in addition to his existing duties.
Summit Hotel Properties has engaged a nationally recognized search firm to identify Conkling's successor, the company said. The firm did not name the search firm or provide a timeline for completing the process.
"Trey has been a valued member of our executive leadership team over the past five years, and we appreciate his many contributions to Summit during his tenure," Stanner said in a statement. "On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Summit team, I thank Trey for his dedicated service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
Conkling, who has been with Summit for approximately five years, said he remains committed to a smooth handoff. "It has been a pleasure to work at Summit for the past five years and I am proud of all that we have accomplished together. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a dedicated team and remain committed to supporting an orderly transition. I wish Summit and my colleagues all the best in the future and am confident that the Company is in good hands," he said.
No Disagreement Behind the Departure
Summit Hotel Properties stated in its announcement that Conkling's departure does not stem from any disagreement with the company or any matter related to its operations, policies, or practices, including its accounting principles, financial statements, or financial disclosures. The company attributed the departure solely to personal reasons.
Stanner to Hold Dual Role During Search
By having Stanner assume the principal financial officer designation during the search, Summit Hotel Properties indicated that senior oversight of the finance function will continue during the transition. The company did not disclose the compensation terms of Conkling's departure or advisory arrangement, nor did it provide details on the profile or qualifications it is seeking in a successor CFO.
