Wood Partners Hires Micah Conn as Managing Director to Lead South Florida Multifamily Development
National multifamily developer Wood Partners has hired Micah Conn as Managing Director of its South Florida office, the Atlanta-headquartered firm announced Aug. 17. Conn will oversee all aspects of development across the region, including origination, entitlements, design, capitalization and construction management.
A Veteran of South Florida Multifamily Development
Conn brings more than 20 years of multifamily and mixed-use development experience to Wood Partners, with a career focused on the full development life cycle — from project origination and entitlements through construction, stabilization and disposition.
Most recently, Conn served as Senior Vice President of Development at AvalonBay Communities, where he established and led the company's Southeast Florida development operations. In that role, he was responsible for sourcing, entitling, developing and stabilizing projects from inception through delivery. His operating base during that period was in Fort Lauderdale, placing him at the center of the South Florida urban market. AvalonBay's Southeast Florida development activity during his tenure included projects such as Avalon Merrick Park in Coral Gables and a proposed 16-story mixed-use community in South Miami with 251 apartments, developed on a full-block site acquisition that set a record price per unit for a local development site.
Earlier in his career, Conn served as Regional Vice President of Investments at Gables Residential, where he oversaw the firm's Florida investment activities. He is also credited as Development Director on Gables Columbus Center, a roughly 200-unit luxury community in downtown Coral Gables. He previously held a Vice President of Development role at M-M Properties.
Conn holds a Master of Science in Construction Management from Florida International University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida. He is a licensed Florida Certified General Contractor.
Wood Partners Deepens Its Florida Footprint
The hire reflects Wood Partners' broader push to expand its presence in South Florida, a market characterized by high occupancy, stable rent growth and complex entitlement environments that reward experienced local operators. The firm said the addition of Conn aligns with its goals to grow its South Florida presence under his leadership.
Wood Partners has maintained an active development pace across Florida. The firm broke ground on Alta Roosevelt, a 381-unit community on 11.56 acres along Roosevelt Boulevard in St. Petersburg, slated to break ground in May 2026 with a projected delivery in April 2028. In Venice, the firm developed Altera Jacaranda, a 280-unit garden-style community across five four-story buildings, which broke ground in late 2024 and was scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2026. Additional Florida projects include V by Alta in Orlando, a 219-unit, five-story community at 10149 Arise Loop, and Alta Trilogy in Longwood, a 244-unit garden-style development at 1050 S Ronald Reagan Blvd.
Beyond Florida, Wood Partners reported new multifamily community starts this year across Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Colorado. The company currently owns more than 80 properties across the United States, representing approximately 25,000 homes. Historically, the firm has been involved in the acquisition and development of more than 115,000 multifamily homes with a combined capitalization of $24 billion. Wood Partners is consistently ranked among the five largest multifamily developers in the United States and operates offices in 17 major markets.
Leadership Commentary
"Micah is a proven and respected leader whose outstanding reputation, deep market knowledge and track record of delivering exceptional multifamily communities make him an ideal addition to our Florida team," said Bryan Borland, Executive Managing Director for Wood Partners. "The addition of Micah strengthens what is already a best-in-class Florida development team and aligns with our goals as we look to grow our presence in South Florida under his leadership."
"Having spent my career developing communities throughout Florida, I am excited to join Wood Partners and help build on the company's strong momentum across the state," Conn said. "What drew me to Wood Partners were its people, its entrepreneurial culture, and its commitment to creating better communities. I look forward to identifying new opportunities, strengthening relationships with our partners, and delivering developments that have a lasting positive impact on the residents and communities we serve."
Market Context
South Florida has drawn sustained attention from institutional and private multifamily developers, driven by population growth, constrained land supply and barriers to new construction that include coastal resiliency requirements and layered municipal entitlement processes. By establishing a dedicated Managing Director-level position in the market, Wood Partners is signaling that it intends to treat South Florida as a distinct development theater requiring localized senior leadership for origination, deal structuring and regulatory navigation.
Wood Partners is headquartered in Atlanta and maintains offices in 17 major markets across the country. More information is available at woodpartners.com.
