Amazon to Build 1M-SF Distribution Center in New Kent County on Matan Companies Site

Amazon.com, Inc. plans to construct a distribution center of more than 1 million square feet in New Kent County, Virginia, according to an announcement dated June 17, 2026.
The facility will be located at the exit 211 interchange along Interstate 64 at the New Kent City Center site. The property was purchased from Matan Companies. Amazon anticipates beginning construction this month, with the project tentatively set to finish in late 2027.
Project Details and Site Location
The new distribution center will be situated adjacent to an existing AutoZone facility at the New Kent City Center site. According to the announcement, the distribution center is intended to serve other Amazon fulfillment centers.
County Officials Respond
"New Kent County staff, the Economic Development Authority and the Board of Supervisors have worked diligently over the past several years to draw major players, such as AutoZone, Target, and now Amazon, to our community. This is another major win for New Kent County business," said New Kent County Board of Supervisors Chair Ron Stiers.
Matan Companies and New Kent City Center
Matan Companies, the seller of the property, has been involved in development at the New Kent City Center site. No financial terms of the property sale were disclosed in the announcement.
Construction Timeline
Amazon indicated it plans to move forward with the construction project in June 2026. The company has set a tentative completion target of late 2027 for the distribution center. No contractor or additional project details were provided in the announcement.
