East End Capital Opens 255,000-SF Studio Campus in Los Angeles Arts District with Five Newly Built Soundstages
East End Capital has officially opened a 255,000-square-foot studio campus in Los Angeles' Arts District, marking one of the most significant additions to the city's production infrastructure in recent years. The facility, which features five newly built soundstages capable of supporting premium television, feature films and virtual production workflows, was unveiled Wednesday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by city officials and industry leaders.
The Mission Campus is located minutes from downtown Los Angeles via the Sixth Street Bridge. The opening comes as the local production economy undergoes a transitional period, with on-location filming in 2025 declining 16 percent from the previous year, according to Film LA.
Campus Features and Production Infrastructure
The campus includes five soundstages with 42-foot-clear heights totaling more than 108,000 square feet, along with approximately 105,000 square feet of production offices and support space. The facility offers an on-site mill, commissary, outdoor terraces, direct-to-stage loading and parking for more than 200 vehicles, with full capability for XR and virtual production workflows.
"This industry is foundational to Los Angeles," Mayor Karen Bass said at the opening. "Investing in world-class infrastructure is how we keep jobs here and make sure productions continue to choose L.A."
Market Context and Industry Reset
The opening arrives during a transitional period for the local production economy. Film LA data shows 2025 marked one of the slowest periods for on-location filming since the pandemic. The market has also seen consolidation among legacy facilities, including Radford Studio Center, which recently defaulted on its mortgage amid the broader slowdown.
Industry observers increasingly view the current period as a reset favoring newer, technologically advanced stages purpose-built for modern production demands rather than a contraction.
"There's a clear distinction forming in the market," Film LA CEO Denise Gutches said. "Facilities that offer scale, efficiency and up-to-date technology are positioned to benefit as production activity stabilizes and rebounds."
Lindsay Dougherty of Teamsters Local 399 emphasized the broader economic impact. "This is the kind of investment that supports working crews and the surrounding community," Dougherty said. "It strengthens the ecosystem that makes Los Angeles the production capital of the world."
East End Capital's Studio Portfolio
The Mission Campus is part of East End Capital's broader studio development strategy through its East End Studios platform, which targets over 2.5 million square feet across five campuses. The firm operates four campuses in Los Angeles and one in Queens, New York.
Managing Partner Shep Wainwright emphasized the Arts District's fit for studio development, citing the area's dynamic development market and cultural alignment with production needs.
Policy Support
The timing aligns with renewed policy momentum as California lawmakers recently expanded the state's film and television tax credit program.
