SHREVEPORT, La. — Hammes, a Milwaukee-based national real estate consulting, development, investment and management firm, has broken ground on an expansion project at Specialists Hospital Shreveport, a physician-owned surgical hospital specializing in orthopedic and spine procedures, the firm announced March 19, 2026.

The project includes the phased construction of a 7,100-square-foot podium addition and a 1,000-square-foot interior renovation at the three-story, 65,000-square-foot facility in Shreveport, Louisiana. The project will add two new operating rooms, expanded sterile processing services, a new loading dock, and a materials management area.

Acquisition Background

Hammes Partners acquired Specialists Hospital Shreveport in 2023. At the time of acquisition, the hospital performed an average of 6,100 surgical cases annually, with limited space for its sterile processing department.

Following the acquisition, Hammes conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the hospital's perioperative platform, including on-site assessments, clinical workflow reviews, and collaborative design sessions. The resulting expansion and renovation plan was developed to address operational needs and future growth.

Hammes retains ownership of the facility and continues to provide property management services for Specialists Hospital Shreveport.

Project Scope and Phased Construction

The project includes the phased construction of the podium addition alongside interior renovations designed to modernize and reorganize the sterile processing department. According to the firm, the improvements are intended to enable improved surgical throughput and position the hospital for continued volume growth.

The expansion will support patients across Northern Louisiana, East Texas, and South Arkansas, the firm said.

"This expansion project highlights the strength and breadth of the Hammes platform — bringing together our clinical, operational and real estate development expertise to quickly and efficiently evaluate the hospital's needs and deliver a thoughtfully designed solution," said Steve Buckeridge, Senior Vice President at Hammes Partners. "By integrating these capabilities, we were able to collaborate closely with Specialists Hospital Shreveport to design a space that supports current workflows while positioning the hospital for future growth and continued delivery of advanced spine and orthopedic care."

Project Team
