Hang Lung Properties, Hilton Open 105-Key Curio Collection Hotel in Wuxi, China

WUXI, China — Hang Lung Properties and Hilton have opened Xi Zhe Wuxi, Curio Collection by Hilton, a 105-key lifestyle hotel situated within the Center 66 mixed-use complex at No. 65 Jiankang Road, Liangxi District, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. The September 3 opening marks the Curio Collection by Hilton brand's first property in Jiangsu Province and represents the latest expansion of Hilton's lifestyle portfolio in China.
Hang Lung Properties developed the hotel, which is managed by Hilton. The property spans approximately 7,165 square meters of gross floor area within Center 66, a mixed-use complex with a total gross floor area of roughly 604,321 square meters encompassing retail, office, residential, and hotel uses.
Heritage Structure Anchors Hotel Design
The hotel's design centers on the coexistence of a historic residence and a contemporary building. The heritage component is a residence at No. 118 Dongdajie Street, originally built in 1933 by Wuxi entrepreneur Zhang Xiaocheng and his sister Zhang Chuquan, one of the city's early Western-trained obstetricians and gynecologists. The structure has been incorporated into the hotel alongside a newly constructed building to form the full 105-room property.
The hotel's name carries layered meaning: "Xi" is drawn from Wuxi, while "Zhe" combines two auspicious characters to represent double blessings and reflects the dual-building layout.
Design elements throughout the property reference Jiangnan architectural traditions. The front desk draws on the form of traditional medicine cabinets found in historic clinics. A spiral staircase in the lobby echoes the "Zhuanpan Lou" or "Zouma Lou" rotating staircases of the original Zhang residence, a recognized feature of traditional Wuxi architecture. Guest rooms feature terrazzo flooring, traditional lattice patterns, Art Deco-style carpets, bamboo-textured headboards, palace lantern-inspired bedside lamps, plum blossom-shaped stools referencing Wuxi's city flower, and Republic-era pendulum wall lamps. Select rooms include private courtyards.
Food, Beverage, and Cultural Programming
The hotel's food and beverage program includes two distinct venues. SANWEI Bistro draws on Jiangnan culinary culture, combining Wuxi flavors with contemporary techniques and incorporating purple clay tea rituals and Wuxi folk music performances. Now and Then – French Bistro & Bar is housed within the brick-and-wood architecture of the Zhang Xiaocheng residence and offers modern mixology in a historic setting.
An Artist Center located in a corner of the lobby is intended to host regular cultural programs, continuing what the hotel describes as Wuxi's tradition of literary gatherings.
Recreational facilities include four swimming pools — indoor, outdoor, hydrotherapy, and children's — along with a pool bar. Wellness offerings include sound bowl therapy and guided breathing sessions. The property also features a 24-hour fitness center, multifunctional meeting spaces, and pet-friendly service.
Location Within Wuxi's Cultural and Commercial Core
The hotel sits approximately 300 meters from the nearest metro station in Wuxi's central business district. The surrounding area includes the former residences of Qian Zhongshu, Xue Fucheng, and Hua Yanjun, also known as Abing, as well as proximity to Chong'an Temple, Nanchan Temple, Qingming Bridge Historical and Cultural District, and Huishan Ancient Town.
"Today's travellers are seeking stays that feel personal, authentic and deeply connected to their destination," said Alexander Shockley, senior director, Lifestyle & Collection Brands, Asia Pacific, Hilton. "As we expand our lifestyle portfolio in China, we will continue to strengthen the positioning of our lifestyle brands and bring more distinctive experiences to travellers across the country."
Winnie Zhu, general manager of Xi Zhe Wuxi, Curio Collection by Hilton, said the property "blends the timeless charm of a Republic-era residence with modern travel experiences," adding that its location in Wuxi's cultural district offers guests "an opportunity to slow down and immerse themselves in the elegant Jiangnan setting where the past and present coexist."
Hilton's Lifestyle Expansion in China
The Wuxi opening is part of a broader push by Hilton to grow its lifestyle brand presence in China. Hilton's lifestyle brands with open properties in the country include Canopy Hotels, Curio Collection by Hilton, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, and Motto by Hilton. Curio Collection by Hilton opened its first Asia Pacific property in Sanya, China in 2017 and has since expanded to Xiamen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Qingdao, and Luoyang, among other destinations.
The opening also reflects Hang Lung Properties' mixed-use development strategy at Center 66, a complex that includes approximately 169,227 square meters of retail space, 137,543 square meters of office space, 101,153 square meters of residential space across 573 units, and the 7,165-square-meter hotel component now occupied by Xi Zhe Wuxi.
Guests can reach the hotel at +86 510 8989 8888 or through Hilton's official website.
