Pretium Opens Abu Dhabi Office in ADGM to Expand Middle East Presence
NEW YORK and ABU DHABI — Pretium, a specialized investment firm with approximately $70 billion in assets under management, announced Oct. 14, 2026, that it has opened an office in Abu Dhabi to expand its presence in the Middle East. The office will operate within Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), the international financial center of Abu Dhabi, giving the firm proximity to institutional investors in the region.
The move is a capital-relationship expansion rather than a property acquisition or large-scale office real estate commitment. The firm said the office will allow it to engage more directly with institutional partners across the Middle East as it continues to develop new investment solutions.
Pretium Office Leadership and Staffing in Abu Dhabi
The Abu Dhabi office will be led by Basim Habib, Director in Business Development, and Dietrich Heidtmann, Managing Director in Business Development. The two will work closely with Pretium teams across the firm.
"Abu Dhabi is home to some of the world's most sophisticated and forward-looking institutional investors," said Don Mullen, Founder and CEO of Pretium. "An on-the-ground presence here will enable us to spend more time alongside our partners in the region and help expand their investment opportunities through Pretium's vertically integrated residential real estate ecosystem."
The International Financial Center Base: ADGM
ADGM is Abu Dhabi's international financial center and gives Pretium a regulated financial-services base from which to engage regional capital. Arvind Ramamurthy, Chief Market Development Officer at ADGM, said the decision reflects the continued growth and global appeal of the capital's financial ecosystem.
"As leading investment firms expand closer to regional institutional partners, ADGM provides a trusted, internationally recognised platform from which they can build meaningful relationships, unlock new opportunities and contribute to Abu Dhabi's position as a leading global financial centre," Ramamurthy said.
The announcement does not describe a large office lease, and the immediate commercial real estate impact is likely limited. The move illustrates a broader pattern in which global alternative-asset managers establish small, senior, client-facing offices in financial hubs such as Abu Dhabi to compete for institutional allocations, even when the underlying investment strategy is focused elsewhere. Pretium's investable real estate exposure remains primarily U.S. residential housing.
Pretium's Growth and Real Estate Development Lending
Founded in 2012, Pretium focuses on U.S. residential real estate equity and credit. The firm describes itself as having built an integrated analytical and operational ecosystem within the U.S. housing and credit markets. Its platform employs approximately 7,000 people across more than 45 offices, including its New York headquarters, Miami, London, Abu Dhabi, Bangalore, Seoul and Sydney. The $70 billion asset figure is as of June 30, 2026.
The expansion follows growth in the firm's scale and product range. In May 2026, Pretium said its residential debt platform had surpassed $3 billion of lending to homebuilders and multifamily developers since its December 2024 launch. That financing has supported construction of more than 13,000 housing units and gives institutional investors an additional way to gain exposure to U.S. housing beyond direct residential ownership. That lending business sits alongside the firm's residential equity strategies.
Pretium reported more than $60 billion in assets and about 6,500 employees in May 2026, compared with approximately $70 billion and 7,000 employees in the October announcement.
Why Gulf Institutional Capital Matters
Abu Dhabi is home to major sovereign and state-linked investors with global real estate allocations. A local business-development team can maintain closer contact with sovereign wealth funds, government-related investment entities, family offices, pensions and other allocators in the Gulf, rather than serving the region solely from London or New York. The Abu Dhabi location also improves time-zone coverage across Pretium's existing European, Asian, Australian and U.S. operations.
Housing finance in the U.S. remains shaped by higher borrowing costs, limited construction financing and housing-supply shortages in many markets. Pretium's combination of residential equity and credit offers several channels for institutional investors, including strategies tied to rental housing and homeownership, and construction and development lending with contractual interest income.
Outlook
The Abu Dhabi office positions Pretium to deepen relationships with Middle Eastern institutional investors as the firm broadens its U.S. residential equity and credit platform. The office is best understood as a distribution and institutional-relations investment tied to the firm's growth, rather than a regional acquisition program.
