Ryan Companies Breaks Ground on Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital in Riverview, Florida
Ryan Companies US, Inc. and Exalt Health have broken ground on a 39,093-square-foot inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Riverview, Florida, the firms announced June 15, 2026. The 40-bed facility is slated to open in late summer 2027 and is positioned to expand post-acute care access in a rapidly growing suburban corridor south of Tampa.
Project Details and Development Structure
The hospital is located near the 223-bed BayCare St. Joseph's South Hospital. Mike Ryan Companies identified and secured the site, led the rezoning process, and formed a joint venture with Exalt Health to finance, develop, and own the facility. Ryan Companies will also serve as general contractor and property manager on the project.
The project team includes E4H Architecture as the architect and Kimley-Horn as the civil engineer.
The development continues a strategic partnership between Ryan Companies and Exalt Health that began with the One Scottsdale Medical project in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Addressing Post-Acute Care Demand
Exalt Health specializes in team-based treatment for individuals with neurological, musculoskeletal, rheumatic, cardiovascular, and other complex conditions. Its inpatient rehabilitation programs include joint replacement therapy, arthritis care, stroke recovery, pain management, and wound care, each tailored to individual patient needs.
The Riverview project is designed to address what the firms describe as a significant unmet need for post-acute inpatient rehabilitation care in the region.
"Ryan is honored to renew our partnership with Exalt Health as we enhance healthcare accessibility in communities experiencing population growth," said Patrick Chesser, southeast region president at Ryan Companies. "Our quest to build best-in-class, future-forward healthcare environments is the perfect parallel to Exalt Health's vision to provide patient-centered, innovative treatment plans, and we look forward to executing another important project with their team."
"This new inpatient rehabilitation hospital will deliver critical healthcare infrastructure where it is sorely needed, and Ryan's breadth of expertise in the region is an asset on this project," said Jeff Crawford, chief development officer and chief operations officer at Exalt Health. "As we establish our presence in Riverview where demand for post-acute care is surging, Exalt Health is committed to delivering a flexible hospital that reflects our brand of trust."
Ryan Companies' Florida Healthcare Portfolio
The Riverview project is part of Ryan Companies' broader national healthcare real estate development portfolio. The firm has maintained a presence in the Florida market for more than two decades, with past projects including Brandon Gateway Medical Plaza in Brandon, Florida.
No financial terms, construction cost, or capital stack details were disclosed in connection with the groundbreaking announcement.
