AirTrunk, a hyperscale data center platform operating across Asia Pacific and the Middle East, announced April 20 the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, a developer of large-scale data centers with an established presence in India. The acquisition marks AirTrunk's entry into one of the world's fastest-growing digital and AI infrastructure markets and adds approximately 600MW of planned capacity — representing up to $5 billion in future development potential.

Deal Structure and Immediate Operational Impact

The transaction gives AirTrunk immediate access to Lumina CloudInfra's development pipeline, existing contracts and customer relationships, and operating capabilities across three Tier 1 Indian markets: Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The platform will continue to be supported by long-term capital from Blackstone and CPPIB.

Following the acquisition, AirTrunk said it will scale to more than 3GW of operating and planned capacity across 20 campuses in six operating regions — Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India. The addition of India as a sixth operating region represents a significant geographic expansion for the platform.

"India is one of the largest and fastest growing markets for hyperscale and AI infrastructure worldwide, and expanding in this market is a significant milestone for AirTrunk's broader APAC strategy," said Robin Khuda, Founder and CEO of AirTrunk. "By acquiring Lumina CloudInfra, we are uniquely positioned to deliver the scale, speed, and performance our customers need as they expand across the APAC region."

India's Data Center Market

India's data center sector is undergoing rapid expansion. According to a 2026 Deloitte report cited by AirTrunk, national installed data center capacity is projected to grow from approximately 1.5GW in 2025 to around 10GW by 2030. AirTrunk attributed this growth to widespread cloud adoption, 5G infrastructure expansion, tightening data sovereignty regulations, and the country's large mobile user base.

The Indian government's IndiaAI Mission, a policy initiative aimed at building sovereign AI capability, is also cited as a driver of demand for hyperscale and AI-ready data centers. That policy backdrop, combined with private sector investment, is creating what AirTrunk described as "unprecedented, nationwide demand" for large-scale digital infrastructure.

Lumina CloudInfra: A Scaled Local Platform

Lumina CloudInfra brings local execution capability, a development pipeline, and a focus on AI-ready, energy-efficient infrastructure. The company's operations span Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad — three of India's primary commercial and technology hubs — providing AirTrunk with immediate market access.

"Our team is excited to join AirTrunk as we continue building India's digital infrastructure," said Sujeet Deshpande, Co-Founder and CEO of Lumina CloudInfra. "Lumina enters this next chapter as a scaled operator with strong local capabilities, deep expertise, and a proven delivery track record. By bringing our team together with AirTrunk, we combine local strength with global platforms in design, construction, operations, safety, quality, and technology — along with access to AirTrunk's global customer network and capital strength."

AirTrunk said the integrated platform is positioned to deliver large-scale, high-density, AI-ready campuses at the speed and scale needed to support customers across APAC.

Blackstone and CPPIB Back the Expansion

The acquisition is backed by long-term capital from Blackstone and CPPIB, both of which have supported AirTrunk's growth across the Asia Pacific region. Blackstone, which describes digital infrastructure as one of its highest-conviction investment themes, framed the deal as a meaningful expansion of its data center portfolio.

"This partnership marks a meaningful expansion of our data centre portfolio and reinforces one of Blackstone's highest conviction themes, digital infrastructure," said Peng Wei Tan, Senior Managing Director of Real Estate at Blackstone. "As the world's largest investor in data centres with the leading platform in Asia Pacific, we deliver scale and deep expertise to meet the rising demand for high quality digital infrastructure across the region's fastest growing economies."

Transaction Terms

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The 600MW pipeline, representing up to $5 billion in future development potential, positions AirTrunk as a participant in India's digital infrastructure buildout at a time when demand is projected to grow substantially through the end of the decade.
