MILAN, July 16, 2026Azora, an alternative investment management platform with offices in Madrid, Luxembourg, London, and Miami, announced the opening of a Milan office and a commitment to invest an additional €1.5 billion in Italy's real estate and infrastructure markets. The move marks a significant escalation of the firm's Italian strategy, which dates to 2019.

The Milan office launches with an initial team of 12 professionals. Simone Palmieri, who brings more than 20 years of experience in the Italian market, has been named Investment Director for Azora Italy.

Strategic Rationale and Target Sectors

Azora said the new office is intended to bring the firm closer to local opportunities, partners, and assets in what it described as a strategic market. The €1.5 billion investment program will target hospitality, student housing, and biomethane as primary sectors, with additional focus on residential, logistics, and data centers. The firm said its approach will emphasize operationally intensive asset classes and ESG performance, with a stated goal of addressing structural market gaps.

Javier Rodríguez-Heredia, Managing Partner of Azora, said in a statement: "Italy is a strategic market for Azora, and the opening of our Milan office, with an initial team of 12 professionals, is a natural step in our pan-European growth strategy. It brings us closer to local opportunities, partners and assets, combining on-the-ground presence with the investment discipline, sector specialisation and operational capabilities that define Azora's model."

Simone Palmieri added: "With €16.9 billion in assets under management and a 20-year track record of developing value-add strategies based on global megatrends, Azora brings to the Italian market a unique combination of scale and operational expertise. We are proud of the trust our investors place in Italy, and we look forward to deploying their capital where it can create value and impact."

Existing Italian Footprint: Hospitality and Biomethane

Azora entered Italy in 2019 with the acquisition of the Grand Palladium Sicily, a resort with more than 450 rooms near Palermo. In 2021, the firm acquired Bluserena, described as Italy's second-largest resort operator, in a transaction that included a portfolio of 13 hotels totaling approximately 4,200 rooms across Sardinia, Sicily, Apulia, Abruzzo, Piedmont, and Calabria.

Since the Bluserena acquisition, Azora said it has invested in operational improvements, brand development, and guest satisfaction initiatives. Bluserena recently received a "Great Place to Work" certification and was ranked 15th among large companies in the "Best Workplaces Italy 2026" ranking.

On the infrastructure side, Azora has developed a biomethane investment and operating platform called Draycott, which now comprises seven projects in Italy. Draycott acquires biogas plants for conversion to biomethane and pursues greenfield biomethane projects. Recent Italian activity includes plant acquisitions and conversions in Capralba (Cremona), Romano di Lombardia (Bergamo), and Moscazzano (Cremona), as well as two greenfield projects in Trapani, Sicily, which process agricultural and livestock waste.

Pan-European Expansion Context

The Milan office represents the latest step in what Azora has characterized as a pan-European growth strategy. The firm currently manages €16.9 billion in assets under management across its platform.

With the Milan office now open and a 12-person team in place, Azora said it intends to continue building its Italian presence across all targeted sectors, leveraging both its existing operating platforms and new investment opportunities in the market.
