Crescent Hotels & Resorts has hired Robert Butler as Executive Vice President of Operations, the Fairfax, Virginia-based hotel and resort management company announced. Butler will carry oversight responsibility for both the Crescent Operations and Crescent Culinary teams across all properties in the company's portfolio.

Michael George, Chief Executive Officer of Crescent Hotels & Resorts, made the announcement, citing Butler's track record across branded full-service hotels.

"Robert has demonstrated a career record of consistently leading top-brand hotels to exceptional performance through focus on quality and top-line revenue to drive profitability, market penetration, brand development, and associate and guest satisfaction," George said. "He has a history of providing effective and strategic leadership, promoting team development and has the capacity to build and create a competitive advantage resulting in superior quality, value and service."

Butler's Background at Sage Hospitality

Butler brings more than 30 years of operational leadership experience to the role. He spent 14 years at Sage Hospitality between 2004 and 2018, rising to Senior Vice President of the Premium Branded Division. He returned to Sage in August 2022 as Executive Vice President with direct oversight of the Upscale and Premier Collections, a group of more than 40 branded upscale and soft-branded hotels across 14 states.

Butler was subsequently promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Sage, where he held complete oversight of a portfolio of more than 60 independent, branded, and soft-branded hotels across 16 states and Washington, D.C. His responsibilities consistently encompassed portfolio-wide operations — including rooms, food and beverage, capital planning and brand compliance — as well as revenue performance across multiple ownership groups, including private equity and institutional owners.

Crescent's Portfolio and Strategic Position

Crescent Hotels & Resorts operates more than 100 hotels, resorts and conference centers in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. The company is one of a small number of management firms approved to operate upper-upscale and luxury hotels under the brand families of Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and IHG. Crescent also manages a collection of independent lifestyle hotels and resorts under its Latitudes Collection umbrella, with clients that include real estate investment trusts, private equity firms and major developers.

Recent portfolio additions illustrate the breadth of assets Butler will oversee. Crescent manages the JW Marriott Reston Station in Virginia, which opened in September 2025, as well as a dual-branded AC Hotel by Marriott Symphony Park and Element by Westin Symphony Park project in Las Vegas slated to open in late 2025. The company has also added the Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington D.C. Chevy Chase Pavilion, The Westin Dallas Park Central and two DoubleTree by Hilton properties in Tulsa — Warren Place and Downtown — to its managed portfolio.

On the independent and lifestyle side, Crescent's Latitudes Collection includes Populus Denver, a carbon-positive hotel; Sandbourne Santa Monica, Autograph Collection; Horseshoe Bay Resort in Texas; Williamsburg Inn in Virginia; The St. Anthony San Antonio; Dream Hollywood; NOPSI New Orleans; Mayfair House Hotel & Garden in Miami; and The Source Hotel in Denver, among others.

Operations Complexity Driving the Hire

The portfolio's mix of branded full-service, luxury and design-forward independent hotels across urban and resort markets creates a complex operational footprint spanning multi-segment revenue management, labor-intensive assets and food-and-beverage-heavy properties. Butler's new role gives him oversight of both the operations and culinary functions, positioning him to manage RevPAR performance, food-and-beverage margins and guest-satisfaction metrics across the full portfolio.

His experience working with institutional ownership groups at Sage aligns with Crescent's client base of REITs and private equity firms, which typically evaluate operators on metrics including RevPAR index, gross operating profit margin, guest-satisfaction scores and brand audit results.
