Starwood Capital Group Promotes Tim Abram to Head of Asset Management, Europe
Starwood Capital Group has promoted Tim Abram to Head of Asset Management, Europe, the firm announced Sept. 14, 2026. Based in London, Abram will oversee asset management across the firm's European commercial real estate portfolio while retaining his title of Head of International Hotels.
Expanded Mandate Across Commercial and Hospitality Assets
Abram has been with Starwood Capital since 2015, advancing to Managing Director in 2023 and Co-Head of the firm's Global Hotel Group in 2024. In his new role, he broadens his focus beyond hospitality to encompass the firm's wider European commercial real estate platform, working alongside co-heads of European Acquisitions Matt Parrott and Francesco Zanella.
"On behalf of the firm, I am excited to announce Tim's well-deserved promotion," said Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital. "Europe is an important strategic market for us, underpinned by strong real estate fundamentals, and we have been very active in the past decades and are even more so now as we deploy our most recent $10.2 billion opportunity fund. Tim has been a proven leader across our equity business and global hotel portfolio, and I am confident that he will be a great partner to our co-heads of European Acquisitions, Matt Parrott and Francesco Zanella."
"I am honored to take on this new role and to extend my focus beyond hospitality assets," Abram said. "Europe is an incredibly compelling market, and I look forward to building on the platform we have established and working with the team to deliver strong outcomes for our investors."
Background and Credentials
Before joining Starwood Capital, Abram served as an Associate Director in Real Estate, Lodging and Leisure Investment Banking at UBS in London, where he worked across mergers and acquisitions, equity, and debt capital markets. Prior to UBS, he worked in the Distressed Debt Group at Citi in London. He holds a first-class BSc in Economics from University College London and an MSc in Finance, with distinction, from the London School of Economics.
Part of a Broader Leadership Build-Out
The promotion is part of a coordinated series of senior appointments at Starwood Capital. In July 2026, the firm promoted Qahir Madhany to Head of Acquisitions, Americas, giving him responsibility for equity investments and deal execution in that region. Abram's elevation to Head of Asset Management, Europe creates a complementary structure: dedicated acquisitions leadership paired with a senior asset management chief in Europe.
The moves come as Starwood Capital deploys capital from Starwood Distressed Opportunity Fund XIII, which held its final closing in July 2026 with capital commitments in excess of $10.2 billion from more than 300 investors across approximately 20 countries. The fund targets residential, industrial, hospitality, and data center assets through distressed and opportunistic strategies.
Starwood Capital's European and Global Platform
Starwood Capital Group has raised over $95 billion of capital since its founding in 1991 and currently manages approximately $130 billion of assets under management. In addition to its opportunity funds, the firm manages Starwood Real Estate Income Trust, a non-listed REIT, and Starwood Property Trust (NYSE: STWD), the largest commercial mortgage real estate investment trust in the United States, which has deployed over $117 billion of capital since inception and manages a portfolio of over $31 billion across debt and equity investments. Starwood Capital also manages more than $6 billion across several private debt funds.
Starwood Property Trust's commercial lending assets reached a record $17.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026, driven by $1.4 billion of new originations. The firm's lending portfolio is concentrated in industrial and data center assets. On the equity side, Starwood Property Trust's broader property portfolio achieved 98% occupancy in the same period, with quarterly net operating income of $90.4 million.
With SOF XIII, Starwood Property Trust, and Starwood Real Estate Income Trust all active simultaneously, the firm is operating multiple capital vehicles across markets. Abram's dual mandate — asset management for Europe and oversight of international hotels — positions him at the intersection of the firm's opportunistic and income-oriented strategies in the region.
