Newmark Hires Steve Purpura as Executive Vice Chairman in Boston
Newmark announced Feb. 12 it has hired Steve Purpura as Executive Vice Chairman in Boston, adding a veteran advisor with more than 30 years of experience in office and life sciences sectors to its leadership team.
Purpura brings expertise advising owners, developers and occupiers across major U.S. gateway cities, with focus on Boston's life sciences market. In his new role, he will partner with Newmark teams on complex leasing and strategic real estate initiatives, emphasizing the Boston region and other innovation-driven markets.
Proven Track Record in Office and Life Sciences Advisory
"Steve is one of the most respected professionals in the Boston region, with a proven track record advising premier clients at the intersection of office, life sciences and long-term growth strategy," said Lou Alvarado, Chief Operating Officer of Newmark. "His arrival reinforces our ability to deliver top-tier talent in key gateways, while continuing to expand our advisory expertise in sectors that remain central to our strategy."
Purpura most recently served as President of Beacon Capital Partners' Life Science platform, where he helped lead the firm's life sciences strategy and portfolio growth. Previously, he was Vice Chairman at CBRE with leadership responsibilities across the Northeast and was closely associated with the region's expanding life sciences ecosystem. Earlier in his career, he served at Transwestern and as Partner at Richards Barry Joyce & Partners.
Boston's Life Sciences Market Position
"Boston continues to stand out as one of the most compelling real estate markets in the world—driven by world-class life science research institutions, a dynamic innovation ecosystem and the presence of global capital—and I look forward to partnering with the Newmark team and clients to capture what's next," said Purpura.
Barry Gosin, Chief Executive Officer of Newmark, noted the influence of life sciences hubs on commercial real estate strategy. "In leading markets, life science and innovation hubs have long aligned talent and capital, shaping where cities grow and how real estate strategies evolve," Gosin said. "Standards for flexibility, power and infrastructure readiness in these hubs continue to influence decisions across the commercial real estate landscape, reinforcing the role of our specialized advisory."
Strategic Expansion in Key Markets
"Newmark has built one of the most dynamic advisory businesses in the industry, and I'm excited to join a firm that continues to invest in its platform to deliver client results at the highest level," Purpura said.
The hire reflects Newmark's continued investment in specialized talent as the firm expands its advisory platform in sectors requiring technical expertise. The appointment positions Newmark to compete for life sciences and office mandates in the Boston region.
