Live Nation Entertainment Plans 5,000-Capacity Music Venue at Arden Central in Melbourne

MELBOURNE — Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. announced plans to deliver and operate a new purpose-built, 5,000-capacity live music venue at Arden Central in North Melbourne, a $7 billion cultural and parkland precinct being developed by Hamton and Hostplus. The company said the venue is expected to host more than 100 events annually.
The announcement, dated October 22, 2026, places the venue within Stage One of Arden Central. Live Nation said it will also establish a Community Events Fund to support local artists and community use of the venue.
Live Nation Venue Location and Design
The venue, referred to as Arden Music Hall, will be located two minutes from Arden Station and 1.5 kilometres from Melbourne's central business district. Live Nation said the direct public transport connection is expected to attract audiences from across Victoria, interstate and overseas.
The venue is being designed by Blueprint Studio, Live Nation's in-house design and development group, in collaboration with Populous. Guy Ngata, Senior Vice President, Venue Development at Live Nation, said the venue is being designed around the live experience.
"This venue is being designed around the live experience, creating an intimate connection between artists and fans while delivering everything expected of a best-in-class touring venue," Ngata said. "A range of premium experiences, outstanding artist amenities and efficient production access have been embedded into the venue's design. Iconic venues are at the heart of communities, and we look forward to seeing the impact our Arden venue will have in the years ahead."
Arden Central Precinct Developed by Hamton and Hostplus
Hamton and Hostplus were selected to deliver the government-owned Arden Central precinct through a competitive tender overseen by Development Victoria. The wider 12-hectare precinct is planned to include more than 5,400 homes for over 10,000 residents, along with retail, hospitality, community facilities and 5.5 hectares of open space. Works across the broader project are expected to begin in 2027.
Arden Central adjoins the newly opened Arden Station, and approximately 1,700 homes are expected to be completed by 2033.
Live Nation joins Melbourne Victory Football Club and the University of Melbourne as new precinct partners. Together with North Melbourne Football Club, the organisations are intended to bring entertainment, sport, education and community activity to Arden Central.
Paul Hameister OAM, Founder and Executive Chairman at Hamton, said the ambition for the precinct is to create "something remarkable on a global stage - a place that blends together culture, entertainment, sport and nature in a way that stands alongside the best precincts internationally."
Alex Klos, President, Australia & New Zealand at Live Nation, said the company is partnering with Hamton and Hostplus on the venue. "Melbourne is one of the world's great live music cities, and continued investment in venues is essential to attracting international artists and keeping Melbourne relevant in an increasingly competitive global environment," Klos said.
Market Context: Mid-Sized Capacity and Live Nation's Pipeline
A 5,000-capacity venue sits between clubs and arenas. Live Nation's Australian portfolio includes Melbourne's 2,900-capacity Palais Theatre and Festival Hall, as well as Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane (approximately 3,000 capacity), The Triffid in Brisbane (approximately 800), Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide (approximately 1,800) and Anita's Theatre in Wollongong (approximately 1,200). Northbridge Music Hall in Perth is expected to open in summer 2026-27.
The Arden venue follows a broader expansion of Live Nation's venue business. In the company's second quarter, nearly 49 million fans attended its concerts, up 10% year over year, while international attendance at stadiums, arenas and festivals rose more than 20%. Venue Nation was expected to host close to 75 million fans in 2026, representing double-digit growth.
Live Nation has more than 25 large venues, each with over 3,000 seats, in its development pipeline through the end of 2027. Together, those projects are expected to add capacity for approximately 15 million fans on a run-rate basis. The company's 2026 capital-expenditure forecast was approximately US$1.1 billion, including roughly US$800 million for venue expansion and enhancement projects, with about US$200 million of that venue-related spending expected to be funded by joint-venture partners, sponsorships and other sources.
Artist Reaction
Two Melbourne-based acts commented on the announcement. Toby Dundas of The Temper Trap said, "Melbourne is where we learned the ropes of being a band," adding that a new venue in his neighbourhood is exciting for "all the moments that will happen inside."
Mark Wilson of JET said, "Bands need rooms they can grow into, and 5,000 capacity is a great size," adding that having another such venue in Melbourne means "more touring artists coming through, more opportunities for Australian bands and more live music for everyone."
Outlook
The venue is part of a transit-oriented, mixed-use precinct that combines residential, retail, hospitality and open space with entertainment, sport and education partners. The project is at the announcement and planning stage, with works across the wider Arden Central development expected to begin in 2027.
